Achouffe Brewery made the switch from fuel oil to Primagaz propane gas. They did this for both ecological and economic reasons.
Achouffe Brewery is located in the midst of the green Belgian Ardennes. Everything started with two brothers-in-law who wanted to brew their own beer in the late 1970s. Meanwhile, Achouffe beers can be found in some forty countries worldwide.
"Coming from fuel oil, the choice of propane gas offers an excellent combination of advantages," said Jean-Lou Barbette of Achouffe. By switching to propane not only reduced the brewery's carbon emissions by 15%, but they also avoid the risk of leakage to the rivers and groundwater surrounding the brewery. "We're in a beautiful natural environment here, and we want to protect it," he said.
The choice of propane gas was also an economic choice for Achouffe, namely thanks to the propane price. On top of that reduces the number of plant maintenance visits because the steam generators are less likely to get dirty, which is also an economic advantage.
Finally, Jean-Lou talks about the convenience of propane and of working with Primagaz. In this way, Primagaz ensures that the tanks are automatically refilled and therefore propane gas is always available. And Primagaz's technical know-how is also to Achouffe's liking. "They took on the dossier from A to Z, allowing our production team to concentrate on what it does best: brewing beer."
