Platform for the food and beverage industry
From September 12 to 16, 2022, the beverage and liquid food industry will gather at the world-leading drinktec trade fair in Munich. NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will present its solutions for the industry there, focusing on energy efficiency and hygiene.
From cleaning to filling, sealing and labeling: bottle conveyors are often used in the beverage industry. To make these extra energy-efficient, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has developed a special drive solution: in the patented DuoDrive gearmotor concept, a non-ventilated IE5+ synchronous motor is integrated into a single-stage parallel shaft gearbox. The IE5+ motor is highly efficient and exceeds even the highest defined efficiency class (IE5). The integration in the gearbox results in additional optimizations by eliminating interfaces, certain wear parts and installation space.
In an exhibition model, which NORD is also presenting at drinktec, the drive specialist compares the DuoDrive to a standard IE3 asynchronous motor with helical bevel gear unit. "With the geared motor, an efficiency increase of up to 50 % could be achieved," reports Jörg Niermann, Head of Marketing.
The gearmotor offers another advantage for the beverage industry, as many systems typically do not run continuously under full load. "The DuoDrive can be used efficiently even at partial load or individual overload peaks. This is because it delivers constant motor torque over a wide speed range and also works efficiently in the long term," Niermann explains. The DuoDrive can thus replace several differently dimensioned drive variants. For the entire system, this reduces the variety of drive versions. This enables leaner production, logistics, storage and service processes and thus minimizes administrative costs.
The DuoDrive and many other drive components from NORD are corrosion-resistant and washable and therefore suitable for use in hygienically sensitive environments. Due to its smooth surface and integrated, non-ventilated motor, the DuoDrive is very easy to clean. This ensures low cleaning effort and thus low cleaning costs and high system availability.
Upon request, the rinse-off components can also be supplied with the nsd tupH surface treatment. This treatment makes the aluminum surface particularly corrosion resistant, similar to stainless steel. nsd tupH is not a coating, but a surface treatment permanently applied to the substrate material so that nothing can come off or flake off.
The components treated with nsd tupH are largely resistant to acids and alkalis and even to the use of high-pressure cleaners. The nsd tupH treatment is available for most aluminum products in the NORD modular drive system and ideally suited for hygiene-sensitive applications in the food sector.
