35 years of frequency converter production in Aurich NORD Electronic DRIVESYSTEMS GmbH will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2023

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS, one of the world's leading suppliers of electrical, mechanical and electronic drive technology, has had its own electronics production facility in northwestern Lower Saxony since the early 1980s. In 2023, NORD Electronic DRIVESYSTEMS GmbH will celebrate its 35th anniversary.

For more than 40 years, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has been developing drive electronics and is one of the pioneers of innovative inverter technology. At its Aurich location in eastern Friesland, the drive specialist produces electronic drive technology up to 160 kW (inverters, motor starters and electronics).

Pioneer of inverter technology 

Production of drive electronics was started in Aurich in the early 1980s. Over the years, the production facility and product program were continuously expanded and broadened. NORD Electronic DRIVESYSTEMS GmbH now employs 180 people (plus another 40 in development) and has a production capacity of 400,000 units - ranging from control cabinet inverters to decentralized frequency converters (up to 22 kW).

Maximum flexibility and individuality in electronics production 

With the state-of-the-art automated and flexible production structure in Aurich, it is possible to process every order size in the same way. Even small batch sizes are possible thanks to flexible production. In 2022, 185,000 units left the plant and this trend is continuing. In particular, the demand for customized drive electronics is increasing. To optimally meet the growing demand, NORD invested 2.5 million euros in the site last year and expanded the number of square meters of customer project assembly to 3,000, spread over two levels. In total, the production area is now 7,000 square meters and the office area 1,300 square meters.

Further expansion planned 

Whether they are used in Europe, China or the USA - every NORD frequency inverter is manufactured at the NORD production facility in Aurich, East Friesland. Plant manager Gerhard Harms: "Frequency inverters are a fundamental part of efficient and intelligent drive systems. In Aurich, we can react quickly and flexibly to customer requirements and market changes and are ideally equipped to respond to increasing demand." While the expansion plans are far from complete, the purchase of 1.8 hectares of adjacent land guarantees further expansion of the Aurich site.
