IP VALUES. A higher IP value is always better, or is it? The meaning of IP values explained.

IP rating (Ingress Protection or International Protection) indicates the degree of sealing of electrical enclosures against foreign particles, such as accidental contact, dust, moisture, liquids, etc. IP ratings indicate the degree to which the electrical enclosure of a device is resistant to the ingress of dust or liquids.

The EAO Series 61 E-stop compact has a protection rating in accordance with IP66. This means that this E-stop has full protection against contact and is dust-tight (1e rating: 6) and a protection against directed high-pressure water jets (12.5 mm) no matter what angle (2e grade: 6).

Waterproof

IP ratings IP65, 66 and 67 are considered waterproof by default. But "waterproof" applies only under certain conditions. Therefore, a better designation is "waterproof."

The EAO series 82 illuminated push buttons with illuminated symbols has a degree of protection in accordance with IP65 and IP67.

This means that the electrical enclosures of these push buttons have protection against contact and solid objects (the 1e rating: 6). In addition, they have protection against directed water jets at low pressure (6.3 mm) no matter what angle and against full immersion to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes (the 2e grade: 5 and 7).

IPK classification

The letter "K," which appears in some IP ratings, means that the enclosure must protect against the penetration of directed jets of water at high temperature and pressure.

The EAO Series 45 push buttons is both IP65, IP67 and IP69K waterproof. IP69K means that the enclosure protects the ingress of directed water jets with high temperature and pressure (the letter K), has full protection against contact and solid objects (the 1e rating: 6) and the enclosure provides protection against directed jets of water with high temperature and pressure, against rinsing or against cleaning procedure with steam (the 2e grade: 9).
