In the syrup room the ingredients of Coca-Cola soft drinks are combined and directed to the five filling lines. A lot of the production steps were still performed manually on a multitude of systems with different interfaces.
Out of date, Coca-Cola European Partners decided. There was a need for more automation and flexibility to get all (new) products to market as quickly as possible, today and in the future. Stricter food safety regulations also demanded better tracking & tracing.
Engie first mapped the existing installations, both hardware and programs, and drew up a unified system. In this way, all activities in the syrup room were efficiently managed and full tracking of the various batches was guaranteed.
In addition, all old PLCs were replaced by I/O islands connected to the central CPU via ProfiNet. For process control, the choice was made for SIMATIC PCS 7 and SIMATIC Batch which included all the necessary building blocks to make it into a dozen weekends. Regular production took place during the week.
From now on, Coca-Cola European Partners will use the powerful functionality of SIMATIC PCS 7 and SIMATIC Batch. The entire operation of the syrup room is now done from a single control room with four screens. Because all process data come together, tracking & tracing becomes child's play.
SIMATIC PCS 7 is also modular and scalable. In the future, it can grow with and respond to customers' new needs and requirements.
