Independent analyst firm positions Schneider Electric as leader in industrial advances for microgrid technology and sustainability

Schneider Electric has been recognized as a leader in microgrid technology and sustainability by independent research and consulting firm Verdantix in the report "Schneider Electric Leads The Charge On The Democratization Of Energy."

Increasing grid interactivity of facilities becomes a key factor for decarbonization as more renewables are connected - from the grid and on-site generation - and as more electric vehicles arrive. Verdantix advises customers who need to adapt to a rapidly changing energy landscape and want to implement on-site renewable energy generation and storage to consider Schneider Electric's microgrid offerings.

"Schneider Electric offers a comprehensive suite of hardware, software and services for power management and automation in infrastructure to enable sustainable, reliable and efficient operations," said Verdantix analyst Ben Hext. "We believe they are excellently positioned to present microgrid offerings that meet a variety of needs."

"Microgrids are a key enabler for a carbon-free environment and a more sustainable energy future. This is why Schneider Electric has built one of the best microgrid portfolios in the market," said Bala Vinayagam, SVP, Microgrid Line of Business at Schneider Electric. "Rising energy prices, increasing frequency of grid outages and the need to decarbonize have made energy challenges even more relevant and universal. As one of the most renowned global sustainability companies, Schneider has ensured that the benefits of microgrids can transform the energy profiles of a diverse set of infrastructure."

Schneider Electric is helping its customers succeed with its microgrid offerings:

  • Flexible energy consumption to reduce energy costs: Companies should reduce exposure to fluctuating energy prices and explore on-site generation and storage to do so. For example, Citycon, a real estate owner and developer, is developing a microgrid-connected city center in Espoo, Finland, with Schneider Electric. Schneider Electric and Citycon expect the program to save $352,000 in energy costs per year with a 5-year ROI combined with investment support for new technologies.
  • Increased resilience against network failures: EcoStruxure Microgrid Advisor uses predictive analytics to make electricity consumption and generation more resilient. The platform can input historical data, weather forecasts, energy market prices and planned operations to optimize energy flows in the event of grid outages. For example, the US Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego installed a microgrid from Schneider Electric to ensure that the power grid remains accessible during extended power outages of up to 14 days.
  • On-site renewable generation and storage for corporate decarbonization goals: Many companies are striving for net zero targets. Lidl Finland installed a microgrid from Schneider Electric in a 60,000 m distribution center2. Projections estimate that the facility will reduce energy consumption by 50% and enable 100% of renewable energy through on-site generation and clean energy purchase agreements.
  • Smarter use of renewable energy and electric vehicle charging to decarbonize operations: Governments worldwide are shifting from fossil fuel vehicles to EVs. Montgomery County is implementing a microgrid for EV charging at the Brookville Smart Energy Bus Depot through an EaaS agreement with Schneider Electric's AlphaStruxure. The microgrid integration will reliably charge a fleet of 44 electric buses, reduce carbon emissions by 62% and allow the county to maintain bus service during power outages.

Schneider Electric has installed more than 300 microgrids to date, provides monitoring and predictive controls, comprehensive building automation and offloads microgrid investment with Energy as a Service partners GreenStruxure and AlphaStruxure.
