"This is an extraordinary opportunity for our company to demonstrate its dynamism in the field, both in terms of employment and economic development in the Mouscron region," said Marc Van Herreweghe, CEO of Mydibel. He continues: "Our new plant has been operational since September 2020 and has been running 5 shifts since the beginning of April. We have hired an additional 50 or so people in recent months to support our growth. Mydibel has invested 170 million euros since 2016. That's a lot for an SME with a turnover of 250 million euros. We are proud that Mydibel remains the largest employer in Mouscron, not to mention the 450 farmers - mainly based in Wallonia - that it supports."
"Mydibel Fresh is the flagship of what we do at Mydibel" says Carlo Mylle. Since the creation of our company in 1988, we have been committed to demonstrating that industrial development can go hand in hand with the rational and controlled use of our resources. At Mydibel, we valorize potato waste by converting it into biogas through a biodigestion process. Our engines then convert this biogas into green energy - electrical and thermal. In addition, wastewater from the production process at our site is also treated. Using innovative ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technology, it is made potable again and reinjected into our production process.
And Bruno Mylle adds, "By using potato peels to make biogas, we generate Myfert™, a very interesting residue to fertilize the soil with. We distribute it for free to farmers who spread it to fertilize potato fields or other crops, reducing their dependence on chemicals."
Marc Van Herreweghe concludes with these words, "Our company is proud of its independence. She has been 100% family owned for 32 years. But to give its development a boost, Mydibel did not hesitate to knock on the S.R.I.W.'s door and allow it to join 20%'s capital.
MYDIBEL has been an innovative family-owned company specializing in the development, production and marketing of potato products since 1988. To say that MYDIBEL is a champion in today's potato world is an understatement. It is not widely known that Belgium is the world leader in the export of frozen potatoes, and MYDIBEL fits into this trend.
Fresh (French fries), frozen (French fries and potato specialties) and dehydrated (flakes and grains) products are part of the wide range offered by MYDIBEL. Every day, about 2,000 tons of potatoes are transported for processing into finished products.
MYDIBEL invests both under its own brand and under private labels for different segments: catering, retail and industrial. Its wide range of potato products is exported to more than 130 countries around the world.
Innovation, dynamism, customer focus, speed, flexibility and continuous investment are the driving forces behind MYDIBEL. MYDIBEL is strongly focused on technology and digitalization, with continuous investments in state-of-the-art production tools, systems and efficient processes for all three sites, all located in Mouscron.
