VEGA helps families in Amersfoort through collaboration Food Bank

In Amersfoort, more than 4,000 households live in poverty, including about 4,500 children. Many of those children go to school every day with an empty stomach. Only 600 households receive help from Voedselbank Amersfoort. Due to shame for example, too few people knock on the door for help. Too bad, a food package easily saves a few dollars and ensures that children can go to school with breakfast. From 1 September 2023 VEGA therefore cooperates with Voedselbank Amersfoort. "We have it good, let's share it with others."

Helping people and reducing food waste

In the Netherlands, a total of 1.2 million people live below the poverty line. They do not have enough resources to buy groceries. Food banks are volunteer organizations that help people in poverty by collecting and distributing food. Produce that would otherwise be destroyed is saved from being wasted and distributed to people who desperately need it. This fits nicely with VEGA's vision, which focuses on humanitarianism and social responsibility. "By cooperating with Voedselbank Amersfoort, we can structurally contribute to improving the living situation of people. Besides financially, we also support with fundraising activities and volunteer work. With positive publicity, we hope that more people in poverty know how to find the food bank."

The cost of a food package 

With 1 food package, Voedselbank Amersfoort helps 1 family per week. Food donations come largely from supermarkets and organizations. In order to provide every family with a varied and healthy supply, the Food Bank supplements the packages where necessary. This investment, including for example housing, energy and transportation, is borne by the Food Bank itself. It costs the Food Bank about 5 euros to provide 1 free food package to a family. VEGA is going to help cover these other costs. 

1 family one week of healthy eating

VEGA donates 5 euros per measuring instrument sold from the BASIC package of sensors to Voedselbank Amersfoort. So with 1 BASIC instrument sold, VEGA helps 1 family eat healthy food for a week. VEGA's team will also get involved on other fronts. In addition to structural financial support, the mix of donations fills with sports activities, fundraising events, performing volunteer work and positive publicity for the foundation. "We have a lot of knowledge and expertise in house, which we would like to share with Voedselbank Amersfoort," says VEGA.
