The tomato base is the most important raw material in tomato ketchup. Therefore, flow measurement is important in the production process. But during sieving, trapped gas is produced that can reach 20%. To ensure reliable and repeatable measurement, the OPTIMASS 6400 C Coriolis mass flow meter with Entrained Gas Management (EGM™) from KROHNE brought relief.
To get a consistent quality of tomato ketchup, the tomato base is sieved into a silky paste. During this sieving process, trapped gas can occur. Previously, this sauce manufacturer used a conventional Coriolis flow meter from another manufacturer. However, this one stopped measuring as soon as gas entrapment occurred. This affected the recipe and caused a lot of waste. Therefore, they started looking for a Coriolis mass flowmeter that could provide reliable measurement results.
KROHNE recommended the OPTIMASS 6400 C Coriolis mass flow meter with Entrained Gas Management (EGMTM), suitable for all types of liquids and pastes also with trapped gas. The meter guarantees good operation over a wide range of gas fractions and complex flow conditions, also of silky tomato paste, without interruption. The DN50 mass flow meter with the wet parts in stainless steel (316L), is installed with hygienic process connections according to DIN 11851. The double-curved measuring tube is EHEDG-certified and easy to clean. The OPTIMASS 6400 was supplied with a basic analog output, digital output options (e.g. PROFINET) are also among the possibilities.
Using the OPTIMASS 6400 C, the main ingredient in tomato ketchup is now measured continuously. This reduces product waste and saves resources and costs.
