Changing the filter of an oil-water separator in compressor rooms is now not the most favorite job for many maintenance workers. The filters are heavy, dirty and smelly. Moreover, it is necessary to wear protective clothing to change a filter safely and efficiently. With the Qwik-Pure from BEKO Technologies, this is a thing of the past. The system uses closed cartridges that are therefore easy and clean to take out and replace with a new filter. 'Just a quick filter change' can now be done simply at 4:30 before going home.
Compressed air used in the food industry is practically always equipped with an oil-water separator. This separates and filters (compressor) oil from the condensate (created during the generation of compressed air). After all, moisture and oil should not come into contact with hygienic processes, nor should oil simply enter the environment.
The conventional version of an oil-water separator works very pragmatically on the basis of gravity. In this process, the fluid containing the oil "seeps" through a suitable filter medium. The relatively clean water is then discharged into the sewer while the oil remains in the filter. When the filter is saturated, the TD has to replace it with a clean filter and many people hate that. And rightly so. The filter is often heavy, it stinks because it has been in use for several months, and on top of that, an oil-water mixture drips out. Especially when the saturation level is already somewhat exceeded. To exchange filters responsibly, it is therefore necessary to wear protective clothing and to clean the area well afterwards to avoid slipperiness.
Identifying a problem is often already half the solution. BEKO Technologies therefore developed a system with closed filter cartridges that stands out in several respects. First, the oil-water mixture does not flow through the filter by gravity alone but is aided by light compressed air blasts that actively force the condensate through two types of filter material. As a result, the cartridge is always filled with liquid and cannot dry out. This prevents odors due to bacterial growth but also prevents dehydration of the filter medium. The latter can lead to impermeable layers and thus a decrease in filter efficiency.
A second important point is that the filter itself is a closed system. For this purpose, it is implemented as a cartridge whose inlet tube is designed as a stable handle. In this way, the cartridge can be easily and safely removed from the system and replaced with a new, clean cartridge. Due to the check valve in the bottom plate in combination with supplied sealing caps, nothing can drip onto the floor when changing either. Therefore, the employee in question does not have to wear protective clothing or work with a heavily saturated and leaking filter. Thanks to the controlled disposal, a fully saturated cartridge weighs no more than 25 kg and is thus easily disposed of as chemical waste.
To support proper operation, the Qwik-Pure features integrated monitoring. If the cartridge is in danger of becoming full, a signal is issued in time for the change to be scheduled. Furthermore, the system provides a fail-safe function that ensures safe continuation when the power fails. In that case, the Qwik-Pure behaves like a conventional gravity separator.
Finally, the system is fully modular which allows it to be expanded or reduced as needed. Each model uses the same pattern which also simplifies purchasing and inventory management.
