There is a drive solution for almost every drive problem with high hygiene requirements

Groschopp has a series of stainless steel geared motors in its product range that, in terms of innovative technology and hygiene requirements, more than meet and even exceed current standards. But this is not the only solution to prevent corrosion. In many cases, surface treatment of the material is sufficient. Thus, the company has a drive solution for almost any drive problem with high hygiene requirements.

Groschopp specializes in the development and manufacture of innovative drive technology technologies and has been active in the stainless steel motor market for many years. It has an enormous amount of knowledge in this field. For example, the ESK series, the well-known series of servomotors under the name "Silver-Line" has been available for some time now. 

Attention to hygiene requirements

In the food industry, hygiene requirements are more stringent and are being tightened again and again. To achieve the highest possible level of cleanliness, entire production environments are foamed in and hosed down. This foam is alkaline or acidic and very aggressive. The drives and other components that were typically used cannot withstand this. Groschopp, a member of EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group) since 2015, can use this new development to strengthen its customers in the process of further raising awareness of food safety. It develops solutions that, in terms of innovative technology and hygiene requirements, more than meet and even exceed current standards. The company has therefore developed for environments with high hygiene requirements, among other things, a stainless steel servo motor with integrated controller and planetary gearbox.

Integration

The strength of the design is that the planetary gearbox is integrated into the stainless steel motor housing. This eliminates the need to connect a relatively expensive stainless steel gearbox to a stainless steel motor. Thus, with an integrated design, the stainless steel outer casing of a gearbox falls away, resulting in significant savings. 

Hygienic Design

Groschopp's drive concept in Hygienic Design is based on the previously mentioned existing line of ESK Silver-Line type servomotors and the new ESKH series. This series meets the strict guidelines of EHEDG, is designed in IP69K and is resistant to chemicals. It is suitable for application in the food and packaging industry, but also certainly in chemical and pharmaceutical production environments. The series is also available with angular stainless steel worm gearboxes type VES31 and VES40 or stainless steel planetary gearboxes. 

Surface treatment

But stainless steel is not the only solution in environments with high hygiene requirements. In many cases, a surface treatment of the material is sufficient. For example, Groschopp provides "intermediate solutions" such as SILA-COAT® protection. This is an acid-resistant layer applied to the outside of geared motors by an electrolytic dipping process. SILA-COAT® motors can also be used in places where the requirement is for the drive to be made entirely of stainless steel. The great advantage is that this drive as a whole offers great protection against cleaning agents with a pH value of between 2 and 14. 

Two-component paint

It is also possible to coat a (servo)geared motor with a special acid-resistant two-component paint. This can consist of several colors and is resistant to UV light.

Solutions

In other words, there are several solutions for dealing with drive issues in the food industry as well. The trick is to bring problem and solution together. Groschopp therefore always works with customers to find the best drive solution, both in terms of functionality and budget.
