The stainless steel versions are used in environments with high hygiene requirements. These include the food processing, medical and also petrochemical industries. The outer casing is very smooth, even "mirror smooth" on the VE40, so dirt has virtually no chance of adhering. Stainless steel is also resistant to many aggressive cleaning agents such as Caustic Soda. Stainless steel prevents ingrowth and rusting and thus the premature replacement of a drive, which always incurs additional costs due to downtime and replacement. In some cases, a designer chooses this for design reasons: "it just has to look nice."
