The new IE5+ motor generation from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS guarantees the highest efficiency and operational reliability thanks to IE5+ technology. It combines the advantages of the modular system with the possibilities of version reduction and makes an essential contribution to reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).
The NORD IE5+ motor is available from NORD in three versions: as an unventilated motor with smooth surface, as a ventilated motor with cooling fins and as an integrated motor in the new, patented NORD DuoDrive.
The new IE5+ motor generation was specially designed by NORD DRIVESYSTEMS for use in intralogistics and the food and beverage industry. The particularly compact and energy-efficient synchronous motors have a high efficiency over a wide torque range resulting in optimum energy consumption even at partial load and lower speeds. The enormous energy-saving potential becomes clear from a direct comparison between a normal IE3 asynchronous motor (0.75 kW, 83 % motor efficiency, right-angle gear unit) and a corresponding IE5+ synchronous motor (0.75 kW, 93 % motor efficiency, right-angle gear unit). Assuming 16 operating hours per day (4000 p.a.), this amounts to savings of about 400 kWh per year. Per drive, that means a CO2 emission factor of 366 g/kWh, approx. 0.15 tons of CO2 per year. Since there are often more than 2,000 drives installed in a system, this amounts to a potential CO2 savings of approx. 300 tons of CO2 per year. Due to the optimized power density, the compact IE5+ motor can also achieve space savings of up to 40% compared to conventional asynchronous motors. Moreover, a more powerful motor with higher energy efficiency can also be accommodated in the same installation space.
Constant torque over a wide speed range enables targeted reduction of the number of executions. This reduces administrative costs and streamlines production, logistics, storage and service processes. The investment pays for itself in a short time. By taking advantage of the high overload capacity of the motors and the wide adjustment range of the system, the solution can be individually tailored to each customer and designed specifically for the individual load range of the system. In addition to version reduction and higher energy efficiency, the application of IE5+ technology is also notable for the motors' small size and compactness, plug-in capability and plug-and-play configurability
The IE5+ synchronous motors with motor efficiencies up to 95% are available in vented or smooth versions up to a power of 4.0 kW with continuous torque from 1.6 to 18.2 Nm and speeds from 0 to 2,100 min-1. The smooth, hygienic wash-down design of the fanless version is particularly easy to clean, corrosion-resistant and therefore ideally suited for use in environments where hygiene is a high priority, such as the pharmaceutical and food industries. If required, a nsd tupH surface treatment and IP69K protection class are available.
In accordance with NEMA or IEC, the motor can be mounted directly on all NORD drives. Both NEMA C-face and IEC B14 and IEC B5 flange mounting are possible. An integrated encoder is part of the standard equipment; a mechanical brake can be optionally integrated. The IE5+ synchronous motors can be combined with all gear units and drive electronics from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS in a modular system. The result is a system solution from a single source, where all components are seamlessly matched.
