With its products, the Schmersal Group has been committed to safety at the workplace for many years. In addition to a wide range of safety solutions, experts advise and accompany machine manufacturers and operators on everything involved in machine safety.
The Schmersal Group develops and produces about 18,000 different switching components. According to Schmersal, safety and productivity go well together. Thus, the company has integrated modern safety systems into machines for a trouble-free, safe production flow. Manufacturers of safety systems thus make an important contribution to a pleasant working environment in which machines take heavy and monotonous work off people's hands without exposing them to hazards and irresponsible risks. Here are some examples from the range.

The AZM300 IP69K safety interlock, as the name implies, has sealing degree IP69 and is suitable for attachment to profile systems. The operating element has three different operating devices and is equipped with a coded RFID tag. Three LEDs display the operating status. Applications include the locking of swing and sliding doors.

A second example from the range is the compact safety sensor RSS260, with detection principle based on RFID technology that achieves a high switching distance. The integrated RFID technology allows the user to choose the most appropriate coding for his application according to the required tamper protection. One of the advantages of the RSS260 is the ability to connect multiple safety sensors in series and evaluate them via a common safety module, without losing the safety level and diagnostic capabilities.

Safety does not have to lead to high complexity. This is also proven by the Safety fieldbox from Schmersal. It is a simple plug-and-play installation solution for complex machines. Due to its universal interface with an eight-pole M12 connector, it can be used to connect a wide range of safety devices: electronic and electromechanical safety interlocks, switches, sensors, light curtains and control panels. Safety devices from other manufacturers can also be easily connected, for example via an adapter.

An Industry 4.0-enabled solution with OPC UA is the safety control PSC1 configurator. It is an online tool that allows machine builders and machine users to easily and quickly configure a safe control system for their machines based on their individual needs.
In addition to appropriate safety solutions, knowledge about safety is also important. Think of knowledge about the machinery directive and associated standards, risk assessments, specific processes ... This is why Schmersal founded tec.nicum in 2016. In this independent service division, tec.nicum experts advise and guide machine manufacturers and operators on everything involved in machine safety. This is done through training, on-site consulting, documentation and planning, and concrete assistance, for example during the installation of safety systems. The range of services offered by tec.nicum is based on four pillars: Knowledge transfer (tec.nicum academy), Advice and services (tec.nicum consulting), Technical planning (tec.nicum engineering) and Implementation (tec.nicum integration).
Schmersal continues to innovate through collaboration with Inxpect
Schermsal recently partnered with Inxpect, a manufacturer of security radars that can detect the entry or presence of people in hazardous areas. Inxpect's signature security radar is highly reliable and is not subject to interference from dust, smoke, water or other sources, reducing false alarms and increasing productivity.
