Two in one: Leuze presents the GSX, the world's first combined fork sensor.

The new GSX complements Leuze's range of fork sensors. This sensor is especially suitable for labeling machines used in the packaging industry.

With the introduction of the GSX, the world's first combined fork sensor, Leuze continues its decades-long tradition as an innovator. Leuze not only invented the first label fork with the GS05, but also developed the first ultrasonic fork sensor with the GSU14. With the company's latest innovation, the GSX (several models available), Leuze rounds out its product range of fork sensors with a combined model that offers both optical and ultrasonic detection principles. It thus combines the advantages of the optical variants with those of the ultrasonic solutions and is most suitable for labeling machines used in the packaging industry. With this innovation, Leuze once again demonstrates their long-standing expertise and Sensor People application knowledge in this field.

Leuze expands its range of fork sensors

Applying labels of various shapes, sizes and materials to products and packaging by means of a labeling machine is one of the fundamental tasks performed in the packaging industry. For precise positioning, the label must be detected safely and reliably - even at high conveying speeds. This task is performed by fork sensors, which house the transmitter and receiver in one device and ensure high operational reliability. Not only are these devices highly sensitive, they are also easy to mount and require no alignment. Until now, Leuze has offered two fork sensor models for this purpose: light and ultrasonic. A new version combining light and ultrasonics is now available. With this, Leuze adds another world first to its product range and rounds out its range.

Two in one: the world's first GSX14E

The GSX fork sensor is the world's first sensor of its kind, combining the two detection methods of ultrasonic and optical in one housing. It brings together the advantages of both principles and can be used very flexibly. It reliably, quickly and accurately detects a wide range of labels, regardless of their material and surface characteristics. This increases machine throughput and avoids downtime. Even labels made of inhomogeneous BOPP material can be reliably detected due to the optical operating principle. The fork sensor is particularly suitable for applications in which different types of labels must be detected. Until now, this often required several different fork sensors. The user not only saves space, but also additional time and costs for installation. The new fork sensor can be set up quickly and easily via the teach button to learn the label-carrier combination. Only one universal mounting position is required for all objects.

IO-Link for easy configuration and recipe management

The new GSX fork sensor is equipped with an IO-Link interface. This serves to configure the sensor easily, quickly and economically. The interface can be used to enable remote teaching or button locking, among other things. In addition, recipe management facilitates easy changing of formats when replacing rollers. This means that re-learning is not necessary when changing rolls to a different label format. The format is quickly changed by selecting the appropriate parameter set for the corresponding label format. This parameter selection is performed directly on the labeling machine via the HMI. This not only saves installation time, but also increases production volume and makes the system more economical.
