Sassello, nestled in the lush landscape of the Ligurian Apennines, has had a rich tradition of confectionery production since the mid-19th century. One of the region's best-known specialties is the Amaretto Morbido, which has traditionally been produced using artisanal methods.
Augusto Cavallero, founder of La Sassellese, came up with the Canestrellino: a small treat that can be eaten in a single bite and is a smaller version of the Canestrello, a traditional Ligurian cookie. Cavallero was also a pioneer in the field of packaging. In the 1970s, he was the first to introduce flow-pack packaging for amaretti.
Today, the company operates under the name ADR, while continuing to adhere to high quality standards and a careful selection of raw materials.

Markem-Imaje supports ADR in an ongoing process of standardization and improvement. By aligning its operational and quality objectives, ADR has been able to further strengthen the continuity and reliability of its production.
Various Markem-Imaje technologies are used on ADR's production lines, including Continuous Inkjet (CIJ) Printers, Thermal Transfer Overprinters (TTO) and Print & Apply Systems. All systems are managed centrally using CoLOS®, Markem-Imaje's industrial software.
The applications fully comply with the requirements of major retail organizations, GS1 standards, and the regulations applicable to the various international markets in which ADR operates.
ADR chose Markem-Imaje as its coding and marking partner because of the company's excellent track record.
Ervin Persano, Production Manager at ADR, explains: “We chose Markem-Imaje because we knew that a company’s experience and track record would be of great importance. That’s how this excellent partnership with Markem-Imaje came about.”
According to Persano, the quality of technical support and customer service were also decisive factors in choosing Markem-Imaje.
A major advantage is the Markem-Imaje Virtual Assistant, which is easily accessible via a QR code on the printer's touchscreen. In the event of a malfunction, operators can immediately and intuitively access the information they need to identify the problem and take swift action.
“Thanks to the QR code, we can immediately determine the exact nature of the malfunction and then take swift, targeted action. This saves us valuable time and allows us to minimize production downtime.”

"Open communication with the customer is essential for a successful partnership," emphasizes Federica Milo, Team Leader of Supplies and Service at Markem-Imaje Italy:
“For us, technical support means being there before, during, and after every customer need. We teach customers how to make the most of our service portfolio, resolve issues on their own, and order the right parts themselves.”
This approach not only gives customers quick access to support, but also enables them to handle issues more and more independently when a problem arises.
ADR continues to invest in technology and processes to further reduce the risk of errors in coding and marking products. With Markem-Imaje as its coding and marking partner, ADR can continue to build a reliable production process for high-quality amaretti, with quality and consistency as its guiding principles.
As a result, the future looks more promising than ever for ADR's high-quality amaretti.
